Visit to National Museum

Another pleasant if not cool day and we walked across the city to this museum known for it's ancient Danish artifacts. Thousands of these have been found in peat bogs all over the country.

Above are pictures of lurs, ancient horns which were part of ancient celebrations.

Rhinestones were carved to signify an event and left at fords or crossroads.

We also saw skeletons and remains of people, again found amazingly well preserved in bogs from several thousand years BC.

In addition many thousand artifacts including implements of war, farming and household items have been found---many of which are on display from the Stone Age through the Iron Age.

Later we visited an outstanding exhibit on Denmark around the 1600s when it had a strategic position controlling the Baltic.

Louisiana Museum

This is the most outstanding modern art museum in Scandinavia, a lovely train ride north along the Oresund. This is the strait between Denmark and Sweden. In the picture below Sweden is visible on the distance!!!

Train to Louisiana Museum

Bicycles all over! We took a 40 min train ride north along the coast to this wonderful museum. Everyone bikes to the central station and there is a separate car for bikes and strollers.

Arrival in Copenhagen

We arrived late morning in Denmark after a very good overnight flight from Seattle via Amsterdam.
Feeling a little jet lagged but not wanting to waste the afternoon we headed for Tivoli Gardens the famous 100+ year old Danish Amusement park in the heart of the city.
