Mirador de Colon

Monument to Christopher Columbus who sailed for the new world from Barcelona is at the end of Las Ramblas. Ironically he is pointing in the wrong direction!!!

Strolling Las Ramblas

After leaving the market we continued along toward the water, stopping to check out flower and seed stalls and an brick installation by Joan Miro on the walk. The black swirl is representative of an anchor (the sea)!

Mercat de la Boqueria

This is the BIG city central market. Never saw such a wide variety of fish. Shrimp, octopus, squid, cuttlefish, salmon. And jambon, all kinds of ham, from all over Spain.

Placa Catalunya

This is the site of many demonstrations and where people gather to watch Barcelona play football on big screen TV.

Off to see the sights--first day in Barcelona

We headed of to Passeig de Gracia near our hotel. And headed toward La Ramble.

First visit to Tapas Bar

Near our hotel we found a typical tapas bar. We ordered white anchovies, artichokes, olives, salted red prawns and grilled razor clams! Delicious especially with a bottle of Rioja.

Early morning transfer at Heathrow

We had a super overnite flight on a new BA Airbus 380. Over 400 on board but we could not tell so many from business class.
