Whaling Museum and More

Whaling put Nantucket on the map! We arrived at the Whaling Museum when it opened and viewed a terrific movie about Nantucket and a multi-media talk about whaling both of which were excellent. Not so sure it would have been so interesting to learn about whaling had we not been to Antarctica..as many of the Nantucket whaling ships went south around Cape Horn and were away for years. Because of whaling Nantucket became VERY wealthy. After the decline of whaling in 1850's it pursued tourism and it now is a very expensive place to travel in summer season!!!!
