Getting About Singapore

Singapore is a very easy city to get around.  Owning an auto is discouraged especially since before purchasing a vehicle one must obtain a special permit to purchase.  The cost of the permit is dependent on the engine size and begins at about $50,000 and goes up from there!   Then there is the cost of the automobile on top of it.   Buses and the MRT (subway) are easy to navigate and not expensive.  Al turned around so I could take the photo but he is supposed to be standing behind the red arrow (and everyone does this!) To allow "alighting" passengers to exit straightaway.   The stations are air conditioned as are the trains and so there are double doors at each entry point.  The trains are crowded but polite and each time I boarded I have been offered a seat!
We have seen very few bicycles although the city area is flat and so we are not sure why except for the heat!  Many, many families with children in strollers.  Shopping is the thing to do in Singapore where there is mall, after mall after mall.  Taxis are plentiful and not too expensive except during peak hours when they are expensive due to higher fares and surcharges within the EPR zone.
