Old and new Columbo

Our tour book describes this city as, “a disorienting morass of mildewed concrete and gridlocked traffic!”  It is a mixture of the remnants of colonial Britain and modern development with funding mostly supplied by China.   (Our guide said the Chinese continue to build all sorts of things, i.e. new airport, with no strings attached!)

We stopped this lovely hotel for refreshment which
was tea sandwiches, juice and delicious cookes.
Dilapidated Buildings like this are among
 the modern new ones.
These three person tuk tuks are all over the city
competing with buses, trucks and cars.   Some are serve as taxis.
Should we decided to take one we were urged to first negotiate
the price since stories abound of tourists who were taken advantage
of by drivers charging exorbitant prices.  We did not take a tuk tuk!
