The Trek!

We came to Cinque Terre to do the trek between the villages! Before arriving we knew that a portion was closed due to a 2011 landslide. We didn't expect the trail to be closed due to weather. The day we arrived was warm and lovely. Early the next morning we awoke to thunder, lightening and heavy rain. The trail was closed for TWO days. Our last day dawned clear and sunny and the trail was opened. We headed out for the challenging section between Monterosso and Vernassa. So did many others. We started out and bought our passes at the trail head and then joined the line!

We slowly climbed high above the sea, single file on a narrow trail. The views were spectacular.

You can see hikers on the trail below the house.

Our destination---Vernassa 2 1/2 hrs later. It was a slow steady climb and a little slippery coming down but manageable. We stopped often to enjoy and absorb the spectacular views. We were so glad the weather cooperated and we were able to accomplish this wonderful hike.

After spending s little time in the very touristy town of Vernassa. We hopped the train for the less than 5 min ride back to Monterrosso.
Back at our hotel Al relaxed on our lovely terrace in the warm afternoon sun.
