Trenitalia

We have been getting lots of practice taking the train in Italy. It took 3 trains from Cortona to Monterroso in Cinque Terre.

We heard the trains run late but so far we have found them fairly punctual.

Cinque Terre are 5 hill towns perched high above the Mediterranean accessible by train, boat (weather permitting) and a very precarious trail that connects each town. Each town is just a few minutes apart by train.
When taking the train one disembarks or waits to board in the tunnel next to the station.

Al's waiting for the train for the 3 minute trip from Vernassa to Monterosso! We purchased a 1.5€ tkt which had to be validated on the platform in a special machine for the short trip.

Here the train is stopped well into the tunnel at Vernassa.

Here is the train waiting at the Monterroso station.
